Municipal Park Upgrades

Post  Pee Kaa on Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:52 am

It was reported at the recent school board meeting (Harry Smith reports on PTARC) that PTARC was obtaining bids to move the pond and install a walking trail at the municipal park.
With the current economic conditions, funding loses and budget cuts why would they even consider moving forward with these projects? I know that when money is tight at home, elective projects like these are the first to be put on hold. Sometimes we just nee to sit back and maintain instead of spending money that we don't have or in this case turning to the already over taxed public for more money.

PTARC is assisting the Penn Twp Recreation Board in a grant project. The Penn Twp Rec Board is responsible for the park, not PTARC. PTARC does the recreation programs.

PTARC is not another layer to PT govt. It is an independent agency governed by a Board of Directors. The Board is made up of members of the governing bodies of all the communities that make up the PTSD and members of the school board.

Questions Athena,

Where does PTARC funding come from?

How does one get on the board of directors? volunteer? elected? appointed?

Is there a salary involved with board of Directors?

If it is not government then what is it?

Taken directly from the PTARC activity guide: "PTARC is a non-profit, intergovernmental agency serving residents of the communities of the Penn Trafford School District". A portion of the annual budget comes from PTSD, Penn Twp, Penn Boro, Manor Boro and Trafford Boro. The rest is made up through donations, programs and fundraising. The board is made up of members of the governing bodies (Commissioners, Council Members, School District board members...) and they receive no salary to serve.
