Highlights of the new deal include:

• Salary increases averaging $3,230 per year (an average of 5 percent per year).
• An additional 15 minutes to the teachers' day, creating an eight-hour day, in response
to teachers' requests for more time.
• Moves toward a percentage pay for health benefits.
• Competitive compensation for teachers performing well above state standards.
• No tax increase is necessary on the 2009-2010 budget.

Thunder,
Can you give me any details on the "Move toward percentage pay for health benefits"???

Sounds like a good question for your local school board representative.

Here's a good question, "Why does the Trib only publish what the two school board members who voted no had to say, when there are seven who voted yes? I'm sure they would have more positive things to say about competitive compensation and benefits."

There was a guy I knew on another web forum we used to call "Side Step Stormy" because he would always side step answering a question. I think we may start calling you
"Tap Dancing Thunder" because you seem to always tap dance around a question.

What's the big deal?? Are you afraid that the public may find out just how good of a deal you got??

When Shaun said he felt that they got a fair deal I wold have to disagree with him, you got a great deal. A 5% average guarnteed over the next 5 years is pheonomial. Many places have frozen wages because of the economy. I know my company's average for this year is 2.5%.

I guess I will need to pay a visit to the admin building and get my own copy of the contract. Then we can let the public see what kind of a deal you did get.

You never answered my question above. I'll answer it for you. The Trib, and some people I know, always want to see the negative side of things. He used to be called papakazzi.

Maybe we can now call him paparazzi, someone who always shows up and puts a negative spin on positive times.

When 7/9 and 221/240 think something is good, how can you argue?

The Trib is the Trib, I can't speak for their actions other than the typical media's decision to "Give us dirty laundry".

How is me saying you got a "Great Deal" being negative? I don't think I could be anymore positive than that.

Wrong again sweet cheeks....... I am just curious about what "Moves toward a percentage pay for health benefits" means. As you are aware that was one of my suggestions to the board when in negotiations. I am just curious how far they actually will take it. Any move to percentage based contributions is a win for the taxpaying public.

Great! Now that you have a victory it's time to move on. As Mike Tomlin would say, "That's in our rear view mirror!"

While eating my Cheerios I just read the Penn Franklin's take on Monday's board meeting and the contract vote. Other than a brief "I think it was fair for both sides" from board president Phil Kochasic their version was pretty much the same as the Trib's. Concentrating mostly on the 2 "NO" votes and why they voted that way.

It must be a conspiracy.....wadda ya' think Thunder????

Sorry.....can't move on. Got a look at the new contract yesterday and by the looks of it you won't be paying any additional contributions for about 3 years and then at only 6% of the cost of the plan. Not much of a "Move" if you ask me. Now I can see why you didn't want the info out in public.

Pee Kaa,

It's not me that didn't want the info out there. It's not my responsibility to report to the public. Maybe you should look to your elected officials. Obviously, they thought it was a great deal or they wouldn't have offered it.

Move on. Everyone else has.

Tecaher compensation accounts for more than half of the annual budget, it deserves to be under the microscope. With a budget category this big the smallest percentage of change makes the largest impact. Besides, I am unaware of other areas of spending that need addressed. Wink
